Cyprus – 13 operators interested in Cyprus

L'oportunitat d'operar el primer casino resort al sud de Xipre ha despertat l'interès de 13 operadors.

Speaking after a presentation of the casino proposal during a meeting of the ministries of Finance and Commerce and the casino coordinating committee, Philippos Katranis said the bill would be voted on in Mid-January. If the bill is approved there would then be a period of three weeks before a two month long tender process would be launched.

Undersecretary to the President of the Republic, Constantinos Petrides, described the process as not so much being about legalising casinos but more an upgrading of the country’s tourism offering.

“Our aim is not to legalise gambling but to upgrade our tourism product,” he said, adding that the most likely delay for the bill’s approval would come from last minute changes being made to it.

L'operador escollit podrà seleccionar en quin districte s'ubicarà el complex, així com dos complexos satèl·lits, i se li atorgarà una llicència de 30 anys, amb un monopoli garantit per als 15 primers, a canvi d'un 15 per cent de els ingressos bruts anuals del casino. La llicència anual de joc costarà 2.5 milions d'euros durant els primers quatre anys de funcionament, i després 5 milions d'euros els quatre següents. La llicència d'estil complex més gran tindrà 1,000 places i 100 taules al costat de 500 habitacions d'hotel. Els informes de mitjans de Xipre han relacionat noms com Caesars Entertainment, Genting i Las Vegas Sands amb el procés.
