Brasil: és hora de permetre una reforma més àmplia, diu el legislador en un viatge als EUA

By - 15 d'agost de 2023

On an official mission in the United States, Deputy João Carlos Bacelar announced that he was continuing  to  push for gambling reform via bill 442/91 which  is still awaiting consideration in the Federal Senate.

The lawmaker travelled on Monday (August 02) on an official mission, at the invitation of two companies specialised in the American betting market.

“We have to modernise urgently. We are wasting time and [tax] collection,” he said.

Deputy Paulo Guedes and other government officials  were also present. The entourage spent four days in the states of New York and New Jersey.

In addition to visiting  the headquarters of the gambling companies, the group met with Bill Pascrell representative of the United States House of Representatives to discuss the gaming and betting system in the USA.

“This was a chance to understand how these activities work and explore investment opportunities or partnerships. Brazil needs the taxes, jobs and income that the activity will generate. To be a developed country, we need to face the fact that gaming  is a reality and needs to be legalised,” said Bacelar.

The issue of gambling is gaining momentum. The deadline for deputies and senators to submit amendments to the provisional sports betting measure, which was published on July 25, has ended. In seven days, MP 1.182/2023 received 244 amendments in the mixed commission that has been tasked with analysing the provisional measure.

Bacelar is a member of the Front Parlamentari Mixt per a l'aprovació del marc normatiu dels jocs al Brasil i des de fa temps partidari d'un mercat liberalitzat.
